Easy Marinara Sauce

This might be perhaps the easiest sauce recipe I have ever seen, and it is absolutely delicious. Of course this recipe makes a lot, but don't worry - it freezes very well. You can use it over spaghetti squash noodles or on top of this Chicken Parmesean.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 (6oz) can tomato paste
  • 1/4c vegetable broth
  • 2 (20oz) cans whole peeled tomatoes, crushed in a food processor
  • 2 tbsp raw honey
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp parmesan cheese
  • 3 tbsp freshly chopped basil

Instructions:
  • Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium high heat.
  • Add onion, cooking until translucent (5-7 minutes).
  • Add garlic, tomato paste, and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly and being careful not to let the tomato paste burn.
  • Add broth and stir for another 2-3 minutes.
  • Add tomatoes, honey, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat and gently boil, stirring occasionally for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add parmesan cheese, and cook for 1 hour.
  • Add basil and stir well.
